Chapter Ten

“What in the hell are they doing?” Miko whispered to Ren.

Ren and Miko were giving Cyra time to relax before dinner. They had spent the day just talking and trying to figure out what they were going to do if she didn’t know who the scrolls were supposed to go to. Realistically they figured it should go to Quin, Jaden, and Cami, the Alphas of the New Council. But when they had talked about them, Cyra had felt nothing.

Of course this freaked her out, making her wonder if she would ever know who the damn things went to (her words). It led to a small freak out where the guys had to calm her down. At least she had kinda warmed up to them, especially since Ren stopped trying to irritate the shit out of her. But he stopped that mostly because Miko threatened to beat the crap outta him. Now they were all getting along.

“I don’t know; why would a shifter need a gas mask on?” Ren asked. “I mean, you are shifters, you are like invincible right?”

“Well,” Miko said slowly. “Not really invincible, all magical beings have a weakness that could in fact shorten their long lives.”

Ren nodded. “Yeah, my life is longer because I have Imperial Eagle in me, I just can’t shift. My parents did a lot of research into me, and basically I was gifted a longer life, no disease, etc., but if someone wanted to kill me it would be easy.”

Miko frowned and shook his head. “Not any more. I will not allow it.” He felt a kinship to the human, he had since they had met, more than just a mate, almost like a brother, he could not explain it and he wasn’t even going to try. He was just happy as shit he had found his mates, because seriously, he had almost convinced himself he would never find his mate. Knowing he had two, was more than he could have ever hoped for.

Ren smiled. “Ahhh, you like me?”

“I wouldn’t go that far,” Miko said and shook his head. “It’s more like coming to terms with the fact we will be stuck together for the rest of our lives.”

“Oh,” Ren grinned. “When you put it that way, it sounds so much better.”

“Well back to the Rogues. One has a gun, one had a knife, and both are wearing masks. What the fuck are they doing? They are shifters, they don’t need a gun or a knife, and nothing they could inhale around here is deadly, is it?” Miko asked.

Ren shrugged and then said, “I don’t think so, I mean, being a human, I am pretty sure they would have told me about it, so as far as I know, no there is nothing deadly on the grounds.”

“But they are wearing gas masks.” Miko chuckled. “I’m not sure what the hell that is about but it is certainly entertaining.”

“What are you looking at?” Cyra asked and both men jumped.

“Woman,” Ren yelled loudly. “Don’t sneak up on us like that, especially when we are spying on the Rogues.
